SAITAMA, Japan – Returning to the country of some of his greatest victories, Ultimate Fighting Championship superstar Wanderlei Silva added one more memorable moment to his resume. Silva’s first match in Japan since 2006 ended with a highlight-reel finish as he defeated Brian Stann in a main-event slugfest of UFC on Fuel TV on Sunday at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Silva (35-12-1) survived a bit of early trouble from Stann (12-6) to deliver a dramatic knockout at 4:08 of the second round in the headliner. “I’m happy to make a good fight,” said Silva. “Brian Stann is a tough opponent, and I’m so glad for the opportunity that the UFC and (president) Dana White gave to me. “I don’t have words for how happy I am.”

A key match-up from the 2005 PRIDE middleweight tournament will be contested again, as UFC light heavyweights Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua (Venum fighter) and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira are set to face off on the main card of UFC 161. That event is planned for the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on June 15. Rua, 31, defeated Nogueira in 2005 in the quarterfinals by unanimous decision and ultimately won the entire famed tournament. He has been up and down in his UFC run, however, going 5-5 inside the Octagon. He earned the UFC light heavyweight title in defeating Lyoto Machida at UFC 113 in May of 2010. He surrendered it in his next bout, however, losing to current champion Jon Jones at UFC 128 in March of 2011. His current MMA record stands at 21-7.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo is reportedly heading back home to defend his 145-pound strap against lightweight import Anthony Pettis in the main event of UFC 163, scheduled for Aug. 3, 2013 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This Saturday night at UFC 156 Jose Aldo defeated Frankie Edgar via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) and keep his featherweight belt!

The UFC’s return to Japan now has a main event and a featured lightweight bout. The headline fight will take place in the light heavyweight division as former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva battles American hero Brian Stann. For years, Wanderlei Silva ruled Pride Fighting Championships with an iron fist, and did so with some of the most devastating knockouts the sport has ever seen. Now Silva returns to Japan for the first time since 2006 before Pride was bought out by Zuffa and the company disbanded.

Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida (19-3) narrowly edged Henderson in the night's co-main event. Henderson (29-9), who had been scheduled to fight Jones in September but withdrew because of injury, blamed himself for coming up short against Machida. Two judges scored the fight 29-28 for Machida; the third 29-28 for Henderson. Following a split-decision win over Dan Henderson at UFC 157 on Saturday, UFC president Dana White confirmed Machida's spot at the top of the division.
